We've been hearing a lot about the Economic Crisis; every day there seems to be more bad news -- this company has laid off 7000 workers, Janet Jackson cancels her tour to Japan because of poor economy.  It makes me want to run and hide!

Don't get me wrong: I have huge empathy for those who have lost their jobs; as companies down-size or right-size or whatever the new terminology is, peoples lives are affected profoundly.  But I am a fixer; I like to fix things and that often leads me to want to help people fix their lives.  (which is why I am a Life Coach ...)

Have you noticed that it is very easy to get swept away by all the negative talk?  And have you noticed that doing so doesn't fix anything!?

Well here is some good news: there are some things that you can do in these tough economic times, that WILL have a positive affect on your life.

First of all, don't believe everything you hear or read.  Many of the people who are laid off are given quite substantial settlements from their companies, and it is more than enough to get them started on a new path to creating a life that is better.  I know there are lots of folks who are feeling the pinch, but when you get a second chance at a new career, a new life, a new path to financial freedom, let's not balk.

Second, if you have been laid off, or know someone who has, consider spending some time reflecting on where to REALLY want to go from here.  Maybe this is a message from the Universe (or God) that you are not using your time and energy pursuing the things that are most important.  Take some time to reflect, discuss with your family, or your church pastor, or a mentor, and then set about re-building your life.

Third, this is a really good time to start a journal -- record your thoughts, your feelings, your desires and dreams.  Once this storm has passed over, and you are less worried about the economic crunch, you'll be able to look back with gratitude for how far you have come.

Fourth, create a dream board for where you'd like to be in 6 months, 1 year, or even longer.  This is a really fun activity that the entire family can get involved in.  You can put the vision board, or dream board in a prominent place to remind you all that you are moving forward.

Fifth, rent some funny movies; Michael Keaton and Teri Garr starred in a movie called Mr Mom many years ago.  It's hilarious and will relieve some of the negativity for a while.  It's very easy to slip back into that fearful way of thinking.  Don't let others drag you down.  Turn off the TV, and read only the funnies section in the paper.  Lighten up -- even if just for a few minutes.

Finally, make sure that you and your family are doing some fun things every day -- they can be as simple as going for a walk, or taking the kids tobogganing, or sitting around playing cards, or board games.  This quality time will bond you together as you walk the path into your unknown but exciting future.

“We don’t give thanks because we are happy—we are happy because we give thanks.”

This quote sums up how Neena lives her life.  And LIVE is the operative word because Neena is a person who exemplifies ‘walking the walk’. Not one to complain when life deals a setback, Neena finds ways to make lemonade out of lemons, comedy out of tragedy.

In 2007, both of Neena’s knees were broken when she was struck by a car. Rather than feel victimized, she embraced the experience as a wake-up call, realizing that being unable to walk was a metaphor for ‘not moving forward’. The accident propelled her out of inertia and she started giving her gifts of joy and play through workshops, retreats, writing  and one-on-one coaching. Her upcoming book Mystic Nourishment, scheduled for release in Spring 2010, is sure to evoke laughter and inspiration.
